Question:

Is it any surprise that Venus and Serena are pulling out of their most recent tournaments?

Has anyone else noticed the pattern the Williams sisters are pulling by playing mostly the Slams tournaments and then claiming injury and pulling out of lesser tournaments? I think even one claimed they were playing "injured" in Wimbledon and still played on. Venus just pulled out of Montreal. Serena from LA. I'm sure they'll miraculously "recover" for the Beijing Olympics....

  1. Well, that explains why after a decade they are still playing. They have their goals, and to them its only grandslams that matters.I say thumbs up to them.

Some players dedicate all their lives to tennis and eventually they either burnout or lose interest completely (Justine Henin anyone?).

I have a feeling the Williams sisters are not even gonna retire anytime soon bcoz they save themselves for what matters(to them) most.

Its none of anyone's business how they manage their schedules and lives..so y'all butt out.

  2. they don't need to go to those tournaments. I mean its upsetting to me that they don't because they are hurting their chances of becoming #1. But they are the biggest threats in every slam. So I mean they will dominate all the slams, they are just not going to retain the number one spot if they don't play more events.

  3. It's no secret they ditch the smaller tournaments for the ones with more cachet, as they see it. Cuz the Rogers Cup is actually one of the bigger tournaments aside from the grand slams. Their loss, not ours.

  4. WOW!!

Maybe they just wanted to help the US win Olympic gold in Tennis, instead of some WTA points!?!?!?!?

These girls get beat up for playing, for not playing, for playing with attitude or without passion.

They really can't win, can they?

  5. I completely agree with you. I was not in the least bit surprise that they have pulled out of so many of the summer hardcourt tournaments. Now I just read Venus has pulled out of next weeks Roger's Cup, after hearing repeatedly that she was going to play all week long. It's really disappointing for the fans when players of their caliber do these kind of things.

However again it speaks to the argument that there is a desperate need to revamp the schedule so that players can be fit enough to play when they are supposed to, and then have the required time they need to rest and recuperate their bodies.

Also in the sister's defense, I believe that this is something that they need to do in order to keep themselves fit. They are both in the latter stages of their careers, competing against players who are much younger, stronger and healthier than they both are. Therefore they need to concentrate more on the Grand Slams rather than focus on these smaller events. After all, everyone always seems to remember the player's results in the Grandslams once they have retired, rather than their results from all other tournaments..

  6. ...remember 'Turf Toe'?

...the debilitating NFL condition that prevents 'multi-million dalla' Dallas Cowboy, Defensive Ends, from performing certain tasks, like 'playing the game'?

...only a 'select' few types of players have 'ever' complained of 'turf toe' much less allowed themself to miss games due to 'turf toe', but those that have sidelined themselves due to turf toe are all high profile prominent 'playas'

....the Williams sisters are not fooling anyone as their participation record clearly presents exactly the type of pattern that you mention......'turf toe'!

  7. they do not like coming to canada...
