  1. yes i mean you should tell some parent becuase you are young i mean if you do not then they make u watch all of a suden pg 18 get what i mean

  2. ITS A GOOD BOOK, I LOVE THE OUTSIDERS. the movie is the best. its appropriate to youngsters.

  3. A mature 11-12 year old can handle cuss words, and pg 13 movies.

  4. Your counting is off. No such thing a PG13 for a start. Second year 6 is 10-11. Year 7 is 11-12.

Edit: Sorry, I did'nt realise! In the UK everything is like one year younger.

  5. That was a great book...the movies not that bad it dosen't show the guy getting stabbed and there isn't too much cursing  so yes

  6. Is there heavy violence and pornographic s*x scenes in the movie? If 12 year olds are watching it and its pg 13, that means its appropriate for 13yr olds to watch it, one year difference is not a huge deal. Besides, theres more violence shown on the news, and which 12 year old hasnt heard a cuss word. oh please.

  7. I think it's appropriate especially since they read the book.  The school should send home permission slips letting the parents know it is pg-13, but I don't think most would have a problem.

In 6th grade, we went to the movie theater to see the Titanic (pg-13) after doing extensive studying of the actual titanic.  The movie does not even reference historically the titanic, but it was just in good fun, and as a reward for studying.  Out of 60 students, everyone was allowed to go.  No parent had a problem

  8. I wouldn't be happy about it!!

  9. Well if you don't want to watch it ask 2 leave the class room and sit in the library. Don't be a 2 face after all you are on YAHOO answers not everything here is  G rated girlfriend!

  10. "The Outsiders" was really written by tweens, so in a way it's appropriate (the author had her students suggest all the plot points--that's why the unrealistic, idealistic turns of having cute boys recite poetry, senior high boys "conferring" with junior high boys, and a "winner take all gang fight").  But I would not have required it simply because it reinforces unrealistic perceptions and has no particular merit except for introducing future male teen idols.

A point of discussion, though, might be why, if both girls and boys contributed to the writing, why are all the characters boys?  The result is that the boys were feminized by the girls (made exceptionally sensitive) and yet made overly macho by the boys (fights, robberies, heroic rescues, etc).

  11. no pg 13 movies are for 7 and 8th graders and it depends on what the rating is for

  12. i saw it in 7th grade and loved it its not that bad its a great movie go rent it and watch it before you sign the ok

  13. the book was good and the movie wasn't that bad either. and plus you all are almost 13 so i don't see wat the problem is. i mean if u really don't like it can't u juts ask to be excused from watching the movie.

  14. You have to remember that when it was rated PG-13, Top Gun was considered R rated.

With that being said, most ethical teachers will send the permission slip home about a week before. This will give you a chance to watch the movie yourself and decide if you want her to see it.

As far as the movie goes. Yes, there is a couple deaths, a murder, and some few choice words, but it isn't as graphic as the murders are today on film. I think they show the knife coming towards him and then the blood in the fountain. 6th grade is just fine for showing this movie. My son who is 11 just saw it for the first time this year... Along with Johnny Tremain. That movie deals with some tough subjects for his age group, but we discussed it beforehand.

I have had to sit out of a few different movie, due to ethics. Schindlers List in high school is one that I can remember off hand.

It boils down to what you think he/she can handle and should watch. The teacher will send him/her to another room with something else educational to do. You could talk to the school about her going to the computer lab and doing something there, like an english game or something like that. That way it is educational and fun, and she isn't stuck doing something "not fun" while everyone else is "having fun"

  15. i love that book!  i havnt seen the movie but im sure the kids have seen worse.

  16. if the parents give permission the school lets the kids go to movies at all ages with consent 5 year olds went to Nims Island and enjoyed it

  17. it's not that innapropriate. i read that book in 7th grade and they showed the movie too. i think they understandthey shouldn't say those words. but it is kind of gross when he lifts the girls skirt up and says "hey baby wanna see what's hangging." i really don't think parents would be happy about that

  18. Yes, you're all probably old and mature enough to handle it.

  19. yeahh its fine gsh when i was 11 or 12 i watched R movies nd it wasn't that bad. I'm 14 now btw. lemme tell u my 5 nd 6 year ol cousins know the F, B, S curse. a PG-13 movie is perfect

  20. I am in 8th grade, & i just read the book last week for my English class. And we HAD to watch the movie. It wasn't optional.

& honestly, i don't think its approptiate for 6th graders to watch it. the book isn't that bad, but the movie is a little disturbing.
