Well normally in a job interview they will ask how well you get along with people right? During an interview I was told by a really big healthcare company that I'll need to be able to get along with people of different ages and races. I've never been in an interview where they bring up race. I know I don't think about race when I'm applying for a job. The interviewers were of different race than I am.

  1. In that sense, its OK.  They are setting the expectation that you may not discriminate against others.

Now, were they to ask your race and somehow use that to keep you from getting a job, that's a non-no.

  2. Then that is probably saying they've had issues with people before///// it's nothing personal.

  3. This not wrong they are testing your reaction

  4. They cant discriminate in hiring based on race but its not professional to bring up the subject the way that they did in the interview. There are other ways to ask how well you interact with those who are different from you.

  5. No it is not appropriate to bring up race

  6. NO   Race should not be an issue with anything.  Would you hire someone who said  "I get along with XX people and would be able to ...)

  7. Anyone but the white man can bring up race.

  8. Well, yes you need to get along with different types of people. What's wrong with asking if you can or not. If you going to be working in a place where they are different types of people, the employer wants to know if you will be comfortable with that.

A member of the KKK working for B.E.T. television, isn't exactly very fitting.

  9. Mentioning age and race during an interview as a generalization is okay.

The interviewers didn't specify a particular age or race. This was just their way of saying you need to get along with all types of people.

  10. I think that is alright as long as they do not hire based on race.

  11. No do not bring it up unless the job you are applying for expressly states that you will be working with a diversity plan or something.

  12. Yeah, they had a problem with it before.

  13. I think it's best you keep race in your pocket, I don't see how it could help anyways, and it does seem inappropriate. If you get along with all people, just generalize, it sounds best.
