Is it bad for a rat to drink wine?

We are sitting on the couch with our rats, and our biggest one, just took a drink out of our wine glass when we weren't looking!

It couldn't hurt her?

Could we give her more?

  1. You should feed her grapes as a treat, my rats love them, oh and blueberries too. I wouldn't suggest any more wine but alittle woudn't hurt.

  2. One accidental sip probably won't kill her, but do not let her have anymore.  Rats are like people in that they enjoy things that aren't necessarily good for them.  Keep her away from the vino.  It can harm her, cause organ damage in large quantities.

  3. I'm not 100% sure but it probably won't

  4. Well, did it hurt her?

I think it would be the same as with people; in moderation it's okay, but not in excess.

I have read of experiments on alcohol addiction done on rats, so the researchers must have thought the rats were enough like humans to make it worthwhile.

[I don't recall about rats, but some of  my other birds have managed to get a sip of wine.  They don't care for it.  They prefer coffee, tea, or milk.]

  5. lol well thats weird are you planing on getting him/her drunk?

  6. I'm not 100% sure, but don't give her anymore wine...if it's bad for some of us then it's probably bad for them too

  7. Its okay if its a little bit. our rats had a little bit of wine and it didnt affect them.

I wouldnt give it anymore though. it can make them really ill if they get too much. don't forget that rats live in cellars of pubs where alot of it is spilt.
