Is it bad for the ps3 to play it for more than an hour?

I usually don't play for any longer than an hour straight. I like games, but I'm not huge on gaming. But i'm wondering if it would be bad for the system to play it for over an hour. I don't think I've ever played for over an hour straight, but if I did, would it be bad for the system? Could that overheat it?

Ps3 failure rate 1% my ***. I bought 2 60gb ps3's (one for living room for parties and my own) and they both gave me the yellow light of death and I always took care of them never played for  over 2 hrs straight. And sony customer services sucks u need the receipt for something you bought 2 years ago?

An xbox 360 is great, I've got mines since launch and played over 3 hours straight every day except weekends and never ever gotten a red rings of death! If it did ever break microsoft doesn't ask for a receipt.

I've pulled all-night gaming sessions and my PS3 has never given me any trouble.  And it has never gotten so hot it has to shut itself off.  But I do keep it well ventilated and it is rare that I pull an all-nighter. I usually never play more than 3 hrs. a day. And thats just because I try to have some kind of life. Otherwise it'd be on all day.

It's OK. PS3 has a built-in anti-overheating protection - if PS3 will start to overheat, неру console will turn itself off automatically. Just make sure your PS3 is in horizontal position, it has 10cm gap around it and it's not on a fluffy carpet.

Absolutely not. The ps3 can overheat, but it has a safety feature (it shuts itself down), to prevent damage. There's nothing wrong with playing it for more than 1 hour. I've recently been putting many consecutive hours into Metal Gear Solid 4, and I've had no problems with my ps3.

Well if you are worried about overheating it, try buying an intercooler for it maybe that would make you play games stress free.

Nope i played for three to four hours straight once. Besides, its not an Xbox, so why worry?

No but leaving images stay stagnant on your TV screen can cause burn in. I own both the PS3 and 360, I personally feel that Sony's machine is superior in quality and design. Free Internet Play is also a plus. My first 360 was a nightmare, it locked up and gave me h**l. All before Microsoft owned up to making a machine with bad internal components. So it cost me.

Anyways, I'd say play as long as you like without fear of issue. However dust and smoke can cause issues for any electronic, so be aware to dust the console regularly.

No.  That would be a problem for a 360 as they are very prone to overheating.  The ps3 failure rate is less than 1%.  You are fine.  I oftne leave mine on overnight to dowload demos, movies, etc. and have done so since I bought it at launch in Nov. 06.

No Way!

PS3 can go over 24 hrs of playing. In fact if you keep turning it on and off rather than playing straight you might even shorten your console's life span.
