  1. not really. but some pep[ple sleep with their eye lids open a tiny bit, so if the light makes this happen for you, it can be bad for your eyes as it dries them out. but it would cost more electricity!

  3. All of the above posters are wrong.  YES, it is bad for you.  It interferes with the sleep-wake cycle of your brain.  The blue spectrum light is especially bad, so if you must sleep with a light, make it a yellow light.  

    To keep in tune with your cycle, you should cover your bedroom lights and computer screen with amber/yellow film or wear amber/yellow colored eyeglasses during the evening.  Exposure to this light in any way near bedtime is bad for you.

  4. Apparently sleeping with th elights on would obstruct the production of the hormone melatonin; necessary for sleep.

    Previous research suggests that night workers are more at risk of developing breast and other cancers. Blind people and those who live in the Arctic Circle often have higher melatonin levels and have lower cancer rates.

    Children should not be allowed to sleep with the light on because it inhibits the production of a hormone that protects them from cancer, a scientist said yesterday.

    Increased exposure to unnatural night-time light and the resultant reduced capacity to produce melatonin may be one of the reasons for the steady rise in childhood leukaemia over the past century

    Adult often sleep with less interruptions if their bedroom is dark, cool and comfortable-sleeping with a light on can disturb the sleep cycle.

  11. The eyes must rest and darkness must be kept in your bedroom instead of the light,cause it is the only way the natural way one sleep. If you sleep with light on is just because you were learned by your self to sleep like that,through your fear of darkness.

  12. You may not sleep as well with the lights on because in the dark your melatonin levels rise as part of the natural sleep cycle.  Keeping the lights on at night may lower your levels of melatonin produced by the pineal gland in your brain and thus interrupt your natural sleep cycle.
