We went to turn on the light, and it kind of exploded. Is that bad? Doesn't it have Mercury in it? Could it be dangerous, or do I just clean it up and call it good?

  1. Florescent light bulbs can be a problem, but in this instance a good clean up and you'll be right.

  2. yes, because there is a type of gas in it.

  3. clean it up and make sure all the glass parts are in a sealed container and AIR OUT YOUR ROOM...

  4. h**l yeah its bad! Watch your fingers!

  5. Yes and No

Yes it can be dangerous. But in your case you should be fine if you cleaned up the area were it happened. In some states the have a special place to take these lights by law to dispose of. I hear repeated exposure can give some health problems. However, your problem would be all the very fine glass that spilled every after it blew up. So a good cleaning is recommended

  6. 1) It is not good but..

    2) It has a very small amount of mercury in it (about 4 milligrams)

    3) A single exposure such as yours should cause you no harm

    4) Clean it up and call it good

    5) You are exposed to mercury every day and if you were to be tested for mercury the results would be positive.(everybody tests positive).

    6) your body will eliminate excess mercury as long as you do not overexpose yourself.

    7) Amalgam tooth fillings are an alloy of 50 percent mercury, 35 percent silver, 13 percent tin, 2 percent copper, and a bit of zinc.
