I run on my communities nature trail, which is 2.32 miles of trail, but it is paved. I i have Pumas(shoes) that absorb impact, is it o.k. to run on the pavement?

  1. Yes, road/paved trails are much better than concrete/sidewalks!

  2. Road runners basically run and do a lot of training on roads or pavements so providing you are not injured or prone to injury you should be ok if you are starting out I would suggest you run or do part of your training on grass eg where you can run the verge

  3. yes its fine, our xc team in town runs on trails and roads all the time

  4. ...

Our community's nature trails were at one time not paved, but crushed, packed limestone.  They were wonderful for running!

But now they're paved, too, which is better for bicycling.

Running on paved trails and roads (asphalt) is more than okay - asphalt tends to absorb quite a bit of impact.

    Avoid:

    -cement (does not absorb impact)

-sand, unless it's just once a week (can strain Achilles tendon)

-ruts and roots trails (risking turning an ankle)

    -"stoney" trails (risking bone bruises)

    Okay:

    -paved trails and roads

    -tracks (though boring)

    -treadmills (though boring)

    Best:

    -crushed limestone

    -wood chip trails

    -grass trails / fields

-desert trails - there is a fab trail that runs through the Phoenix Mountain Reserve Park that is just wonderful for running (as long as you're running when it's cool!)
