My cat had a kitten around 5 weeks ago, so now only one of her b*****s is active, the baby started to eat solid food already. Today I carried my cat and noticed that her breast is very big nearly like the whole palm of my hand, it's also hard, so it's a bit weird and I haven't seen the kitten nursing from her. We actually started giving the baby some kitten milk because the mom didn't want to feed her for some reason. I don't know if it's normal that it gets so big because of the milk, I just don't want it to remain there, I would like to avoid the medication. Is it normal? is there anything that can be done?

  1. Take her to the vet ASAP.

  2. You need to take her to the vet asap.  It could be a sign of mastitis - infection or simply a blocked milk duct.  If it is an infected gland, she can get very sick very quickly.  It is good you took the kitten away.  The infection - if that is what it was -would have sickened your kitten!!!

This is also very painful so use care in handling her.  She may scratch or bite because it hurts.

    Good luck  :)
