Is it bad to disable Wifi security?

My Wii and ipod touch will only connect to wifi if i disable the security? Is it bad to disably it? What are the cons?

yes it is bad.

anyone can get on your wireless network.  I've often heard people say "well that is OK if others use my internet"

but it goes beyond that.  any devices on your wireless network are subject to scanning, prodding, hacking, and any other attempts to access them by any other machines on your network.

you should not have any issues with security and the devices you listed.  you should make sure you are using wpa security, and you should be fine.

the cons?  Keep in mind that if you let strangers hook into your internet connection, whatever they do on the 'net gets traced back to you (the IP # belongs to you).  So if they're viewing/sending kiddie p**n, it's traced to you. If they're uploading viruses, it's traced to you.  If they're trying to hack into some server, it's traced to you.  Whatever they do, it's traced to you.
