  1. The eco-shaped bottles are made using the #1 plastic, which does not contain Bisphenol-A.  The bottles in question in the BPA "scare" were the large, #7 bottles, the ones that go on water coolers.

You can call their Consumer Affairs line, toll-free, at 1-800-477-7464 if you have any further questions regarding the safety of their bottles.

  2. its bad for the environment.  Instead, filter your own tapwater and use it in a stainless steel or other reusable bottle.

  3. Poland Spring ecobottles are made of PET (polyethylene terephthalate or recycling code #1) plastic, which does not contain BPA. In fact, no such disposable water bottles contain BPA.  That being said, don't believe the eco-hype. Though PET is certainly recyclable, only about 25% of the PET used in the U.S. gets recycled. The vast majority goes into landfills.  The ecobottle is made with less PET than other drink bottles but the best choice, when possible, is to use a BPA-free reusable water bottle such as the camelbak better bottle, the titan water bottle, or the nalgene tritan.

  4. I don't think it's a problem.  The BPA issues raised were typically with a harder, molded type plastic (Nalgene water bottles for example) than the ecobottle that's designed to be crushed.  Secondly, a European commission recently issued an updated report that it was OK for consumer use.

The link below has alot of info about BPA and links to other sites too.  It's interesting that the Poland Spring site doesn't tell you anything.
