Is it bad to lay a washer down when moving it ?

you can damage your washer if you leave it on its side when moving ,some of the parts which can be broken ,depending on the brand include-broken tub retainers ,main transmission seal, main tub water seal ,broken motor brackets ,transmission gasket leaks ,snubber pad detachment ,all these parts are designed to be in a vertical position when thy are turned on there sides they can fail

No it won't hurt anything but you will probably dump some residual water out of it.

I wouldnt worry about it. You wouldnt want to leave it that way for extended periods of time, but for a short time while moving it you should be fine.

Now a refrigerator, air conditioner or anything with a compressor in it you dont want to lay on its side.
