  1. I don't know do you want to risk causing an explosion at a gas station to kill yourself and other innocent people at the station.

Of course it's dangerous. You NEVER leave your car running while putting gas in you car. I you didn't know that you need to get a Science leason about flamable substances.

  2. no there is nothing wrong with running your car while gassing up if your car i capable of throwing sparks its not street legal however it is not legal to run at the pump

  3. Never leave your car running when you are pumping gas, it could cause a spark and start a fire.

  4. YES

  5. Actually, it isn't just the spark possibility, it is the heat.  The muffler on a running car is just about red hot, which can easily ignite a small spill, or the vapours which roll along at ground level.  Turning off the engine doesn't sound like a big deal, but even a couple of minutes is enough for the exhaust to cool down enough to make it far less likely to ignite anything.  In most jurisdictions, it is law that the attendant shut the pumps off if a motorist doesn't shut the engine off.  And of course, any spark caused by the running engine, say from a cracked or improperly installed spark plug or coil wire, could cause a major disaster.  So, as far as the car goes, it can blow it up, or burn it up, and that is usually very bad for the car, not to mention other cars, the pumps, the buildings, the driver, and everybody else.

  6. its dangerous it can get you killed ,any spark from the car or the engine can ignite an explosion,i wouldn't recommend doing this at no time, its not bad for the car but can bad for you and anything else in its path it it catches on fire, you loose the car and pay property damages if this happens, good luck ,and merry x-mas.

  7. Any time a fluid is in motion there is a danger of static electri-

city building up.  If it discharges it could cause an explosion.

Any other ignition source could also.  Entering/ exiting your

vehicle during fuel transfer can also cause a static discharge.

Its also possible you'll get away with it a thousand times.

Now you can make an informed decision for yourself.  Is it

bad for the car?  Not unless the fuel is ignited when it

    shouldn't be.

  8. In Texas, it's actually illegal.

  9. Static eletricity can and does happen. And it could set a check engine code. And it is still DANGEROUS for anyone around you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Your not supposed to leave the car running, or talk on a cell phone, or smoke when pumping gas.  it is VERY bad for the car if it blows up!!.. and yes, that can happen.

  11. it would be bad for the car if the fuel tank caught fire

  12. It is also illegal. It isn't good for you, the car, and the gas station if your car causes a spark.

  13. turn off the engine and pump. dont open your car door or trunk cause the electricity might spark to the gasoline and cause explosion/ fire.

  14. I agree with Mystique. great answer.

  15. The biggest reason is the alternator. When running, a car's alternator is always generating electricity.

While doing this, it is producing a small spark inside where the brushes contact the stator.

This tiny spark is al it takes to start a gas fire.
