Is it bad to leave your windows open on very warm humid days for wood floors?

I have wood floors on the main level... on hot humid days I leave the windows open and even overnight... I'm wondering if this is why the wood floors on my main level feel so sticky? What is it about the humidity that puts a film of stick on these floors? Anyway to get around this without having to close the windows? I like fresh air!

  1. I have the same problem.  We also have wooden banisters going up the stairs and they too get very sticky when it's humid.

The best thing that I have found for it is a cleaner/conditioner by Method.  You can buy their products at Target and some grocery stores.  They also have a website www.methodhome.com  All their cleaners are non toxic and smell great.

The product I use is called Wood For Good.  It's made with almond oil.  It's a two in one cleaner/conditioner.  You squirt it on and wipe it off with a microfiber cloth.  It cleans it and conditions it.  This helps control the stickiness that the wood gets in the humid air.  They also make it in a spray to use for dusting wood furniture and fixtures.  This is what I use on the banister.

    Hope this helps!

  2. listen your floor shouldn't be sticky. something went wrong in the finishing process. i would call the person who did the floors and don't let him tell you its normal. the only problem with humidity is that it might warp the wood, but very unlikely. you can try mop and glo that may work. but i would call the contractor who did it and go a round or two with him. ask him about japan drier. its an additive you can ad to oil bases to make them dry faster, that might have something to do with it.

  3. sometimes yes
