Is it bad to pop your joints or not?

I've heard from half of my friends that it gives you arthritis later in life, and the other half say that it's totally harmless. Which is it?

  1. I used to work at a chiropractic office and I asked the doctor b/c I was curious too. He said it doesn't give you arthritis, but you will feel pain in the future if you do it too much.

    I'm still confused though..but I still do it, I just can't stop.

  2. According to a physical therapist I asked (I was confused as well) twisting the joints of your spine and hearing soft pops and cracks is actually good for you. It's the ligaments and tendons snapping back into their proper place, or so he said. I'm not sure on other joints however.

  3. No doctor has ever linked it to arthritis.  If you do it too much it can make your joints a bit stiff, but in moderation it loosens them up.

All it is is built-up nitrogen shooting out of the joint.

  4. when you popping joints it's the little joint goblins in your body getting exploded, it's very good and healthy for you and makes you live over 100!

  5. Totally harmless

  6. it doesnt... i promise.. only if you pop the joints in ur knees.

  7. According to the theory the popping noise is made by gas that is released in the joint. Chiropractic "adjustments" are referred to as High Velocity Low Amplitude thrust techniques. HVLA technique is usually none at end range of motion of a joint. Some people feel that constant joint manipulation like this after a period of time will stretch the ligaments that support the joint and the joint capsule. To my knowledge this has never been proved. The same sound can be made by distracting the interphalangeal (finger) joints suddenly. I have known Chiropractors in their 70s that have been adjusted though out their life times that have experienced no ill effect. Most of the objections have come from medical doctors that object to Chiropractors or for that matter any physical manipulation of the body as a treatment.

Bursa "sacks" are fluid filled pockets that act as cushions around sharp bones in the area of joints.

  8. yes it does give u arthertis

  9. yes, eventually over time pending what joints your are popping will cause weaker joints and effects the bursa sacs that produces the synovium fluid that keeps your joints well oiled.once the bursa sac is effected then arthritis sets in
