I want to get a bearded dragon. My dad and I are going to make a tank for it, the dimensions will be 48x24x24. Is that too big to put a juvenile in? Or should I put it in a 20L gallon tank until it gets bigger?

  1. I put a baby corn snake in a tank about that size and he did just fine. maybe there is a difference in lizards and snakes but as far as i'm concerned, they are not like human babies and they will be able to find food and water on there own, no doubt. especially with live prey like crickets. just don't move the waterbowl or hide around and your dragon will be dandy.

  2. actually thats fine. but i would advise feeding your juvenile dragon in a smaller tank, like a 10 gallon or so. that way the little baby isn't straining itself trying to catch crickets. the smaller "feeding tank" will make it much easier to catch food.

  3. He should love all the extra space to climb and run. As long as you keep the temps in the correct range you should have a thiriving lizard.

  4. The only concern with a large tank is making sure they can find their food, water and hide spaces.  Sometimes, the smaller beardies won't really roam around the whole tank if it is really large.  I would probably put 2 food/water dishes and 2 hide spaces for him until he gets large enough to find everything on his own easily enough.

  5. How big is the juvenile small beardies really should be kept in smaller tanks as the larger areas can stress them out.

  6. i personally don't buy the smaller tank nonsense.  we all know dragons once born in the wild spend their first couple of months in tiny boxlike structures, because the world is oh so overwhelming. build the big cage, they are active animals, and he would definitely appreciate the space to run.
