Is it bad to water plants in the heat of the day?

Morning or evening, but don't spray water on the leaves of roses in the evening.  The moisture will stay there all night and they will get black spot.

no....because you could harm them. direct sunlight burns the plants if they have direct sunlight...better do it in the evening

Fine, though I prefer to water the soil around the plants rather than get the leaves and flowers wet.  Drip irrigation on a timer is an excellent method of watering plants efficiently and with low potential for plant disease issues caused by wet leaves or soil splash.

It's not really bad for the plants to be watered during the day...think about it....it rains during the day as often as in the morning or evening.

The reason you should not water during the heat of the day is more about conservation and economy than anything else.

During the daytime the heat and generally lower humidity (at least where I live) evaporate much more water than in the morning or evening.  Water evaporates both out of the spray nozzle before it reaches the ground and also off of the soil's surface before it can soak down to the roots.

So if you water during the heat of the day (which is actually an ordinance violation for my city) you are simply wasting more water (and money) than if you did it during a cooler part of the day.

yes if your in a sunny garden or hot house, the suns rays on water droplets can scorch the leaves, bit like a magnifying glass.

Also if you flood the roots then this can cause osmotic shock to the plant and it cannot draw up the water unless there is at least some drainage.  Trees drown if left with their roots submerged!

It is best early morning or at sunset.
