Is it bad to wear 2 layers of Under Armor??

I am going skiing and have just been wondering about wearing 2 layers of under armor. For some reason I keep thinking that I have heard at one point or another that it wasn't good to wear 2 layers (cold gear under hot gear). Can anyone confirm or refute this?

  1. maybe 1 under armour and other light layers will help you stay warm but not suffacate your skin

  2. I believe what you could be referring to is that underneath these layers of insulated clothing it will be hard for the skin to breath through the pores.

  3. I don't think it's a bad idea but it's not a great one.

Under Armor is designed to wick the sweat away and then have it evaporate as quickly as possible.  Two layers will change how it works.  The best way to generate warmth is to have a bit of an air pocket within your clothes so that it fills with warm air - that's how a dry or wet suit works.  Two layers of Under Armor will make it harder for your body heat to get to the next pocket of clothing.

If you're worried about being cold it'd be better to wear a heavier jacket or extra mid layer than two Under Armors.

  4. bad idea... that will just make you sweat which will make you colder. thats why they tell you to wear thin socks instead of thick ones because then you sweat and you just get colder.
