Is it best not to use the pronoun "I" in persuasive essays?

  1. It is best never to use "I" or "me" in any essays. It is unprofessional like and just not the way good essays are written.


  2. The whole idea of a Persuasive Essay is to be convincing without putting yourself, or 'I', into the writing.

    Example:

    I believe Pablo Neruda, who is a Nobel Laureate, is one of the greatest poets of all time.

    Pablo Neruda, Nobel Laureate, is one of the greatest poets of all time.

    These are pretty generic examples, but you get my point.  So, you can use the phrase "I think" or "I believe" to help get you started in your writing, but you should edit it out for the final draft.
