  1. NOOOOOO!

Not unless they specifically told you to.

So yeah, choose a differnt song.  :)

  2. It depends on what you feel comfortable with.

If you do a song from the musical, then make sure you show a good interpretation of the music and the words (i.e. acting while singing).

If you do a song outside of the musical, don't worry about it matching the music from the musical but you have to pick a song that shows your range. you want to pick a song that highlights the highest note you can sing well and the lowest note you can sing well.

  3. Well yes and no my DRAMA teacher taught us 2 songs from the last show i did (anything goes) and gave us a choice so really research the songs and practice the song to c if u can hit the notes and GOOd LUCk

  4. Marianne is right - if you sing a song from the show in a way that's different from how the director envisions the song, that may very well count you out.  If you can find another song by the same composer, but from a different show, that's usually a very good idea because then the style is right but you're not having to deal with pre-conceived ideas about the character.  Sometimes directors will ask for a song from the show, but unless that's specifically stated, stay away from it.

  5. Absolutely not. Never do this, unless the director specifically asks you to sing a song from the show. Pick a song that is similar in tone and vocal range to the songs that your character will sing in the show.

  6. In general you do not sing from the show unless specifically asked to do so.  One reason being is that the director has an idea of how things should sound and if you sing a song from the show and you don't nail it the way he/she had it in their heads then you've just eliminated yourself.  The best thing to do is to choose a song of similar style that shows similar characteristics for the role you are auditioning for.  That will give them the inclination that you could be that girl and as long as you do well and you do fit the character, you should get a callback.
