  1. If you are coming from a foreign country, bring US dollars with you. They are accepted in all resort towns. You could perhaps change some into Jamaican money if you are going elsewhere to shop like in a 'normal' village.

  2. I have found that Jamaican currency is best to use all around the country.

  3. jamaican i think

  4. jamaican dollars..sumtimes they rip u off knowin u r a tourist..

  5. Although the Jamaican Dollar is the legal tender of Jamaica, the US dollar is widely accepted. It is unofficially OK to use the $US anywhere- including Ocho Rios, although it is recommended that you convert the greater part of your spending money into local dollars before transacting business.

And by the way, you can exchange money and traveller’s cheques at a number of hotels and in banks. Many establishments accept US traveler’s cheques. Cash withdrawals are possible from automated teller machines linked to the Cirrus system (see the back of your bankcard).

Most of the larger establishments in addition to hotels accept credit cards too.

    1 US Dollar = 73.85000  cents (Jamaican Dollar )

    Good Luck)

  8. Jamaican dollars if you are planning on going to small establishments such as craft shops or restaurants. You can use US in the larger establishments.  You can also use your credit or debit card and carry less cash around.

  9. You can use US Dollars but change some also at the Cambio. Cause you never know someone can tell you the price wrong when there taking your US.

  10. I use Jamaican dollars. You don't have to convert and you aren't automatically pegged as a first time tourist. Don't convert your money at the airport, they give a terrible exchange rate. Exchange your money at a cambio which can be found  at a SuperPlus (grocerystore). Your cab driver can take you to a good cambio.

  11. I went to Ocho Rios in April and I used U.S. dollars.  Big mistake!!  Depending on how long you are staying, get some U.S. dollars converted to Jamaican dollars....the locals will try to get over on you!!!

    It's a beautiful place.  Enjoy.
