I have a year old bichon frese/shitzu and he is a fussy eater. He has always had dry food but recently has gone off it. Should i carry on with the dry food until he eats it or switch to wet food? Or any recommendations of any food?

  1. dry food is the best but if he is not eating it wet would be ok maybe try to put some dry in the wet

wet food has all the nutrition the dogs need but it fills them up before getting the nutrition needs

dry food fills them up and gives them all the nutrition they need and helps with there teeth

  2. My puppy is a picky eater and rarely eats kibble now. I feed him Merricks canned food. To help with his teeth and tarter,I brush them every night and use Petzlife gel. He also gets a raw chicken neck to chew on once a week. He is a good weight and its something he will actually eat. I know its frustrating but you just have to find what works for you. Toy breeds are prone to periodontal disease so you might want to try brushing his teeth at least once a week. Also, we use bully sticks and achilles tendons from  Free Range Dog Chews.

  3. Personally I feed my dog Burns pet nutrition dry food.  It has no additives, colours, artificial flavours or preservatives.

  4. You need to at least have some dry because it helps keep their teeth strong and clean.

  5. Dry food is adequate.

    We foods has it's cons:

    - Watch the portions *very carefully* if you add wet food. Dogs tend to over-eat on wet food, which can easily lead to an overweight dog.

    - Wet food does stick to the teeth a bit more than dry food. I recommend brushing your dogs teeth more often if you feed wet food. Dry food is better for the teeth and gums.  (Dry food doesn't necessary "clean" the teeth, but doesn't stick as much. You should regularly brush your dogs teeth feeding dry food as well.)

    - Wet food is significantly more expensive than dry food.

Have you had the dog checked by a vet to make sure there's no medical reason it's not eating it's food?

A healthy dog won't starve itself. A dog will as picky as you let it be. Give the dog 15 minutes to eat the food, pick the food up after the time has passed regardless whether it has been eaten or not. Do this twice a day. If they don't eat it, don't give them any biscuits, treats, scraps, etc. They'll learn to eat when they get hungry
