  1. nagin was the mayor. blanco was the gov. now jindal's the gov. i dunno what all is going on but the new local govt seems to be handling it a lot better than katrina instead of blaming bush and fema and swindling all the money given from Americans and the feds and putting it into their own private accounts. louisiana is KNOWN for its corrupt local and state politics. goodness. and people are now listening and getting to safety BEFORE the storm hit. it's a much better response than the first. and once again texas has opened its arms wide open to shelter people while it braces for the storm itself.

  2. Gunning, he's not the governer now!  He is and was the mayor.  He didn't have a choice this time.  I just can't believe they reelected him after his part of the Katrina fiasco.  It was his fault they didn't evacuate thousands of people on the hundreds of bussess he was asked to use.

  3. he wasn't governor during katrina, they elected him because the democrat blanko failed the city and her state!

  4. Yeah it was Blanco

    duh.

But Nagin was the Mayor of New Orleans at the time.

  5. Yes, but the biggest factor is they finally have a Governor who knows what the h**l he's doing.

100% of the preventable problems with Katrina were the direct result of then Gov. Blanco and Mayor Nagin's complete ineptitude.

It is the state and local authorities that plan and execute disaster response. NOT the president.

The only things a president can do is sign the emergency funding request order and approve a request for additional national guard troops.

You can send all the help and money in the world, but if the locals in charge of making things happen are idiots, you get a result like Katrina.

How the blame was never attributed to those who were really responsible is beyond me.

  6. I am not a Democrat but I believe he gets it now and so does the LA Governor.  They did a great job this time. It is too bad they didn't during Katrina.

  7. I thought George Bush & FEMA were supposed to do all that.

Back during Katrina all we heard was how Bush caused the hurricane to hit New Orleans, and he blew up the levees, and he stopped FEMA from doing their job.

Now it seems the local government is doing the evacuating and declaring an emergency before the storm hits.

This is a new and extreme concept, how can a city be expected to survive without federal help?

Who would have ever expected the mayor and governor to have a plan, and be the first responders, and to even think of taking responsibility during a disaster?

What is this country comming to?
