Is it better to always hang up your cordless phone or let the battery fully discharge before recharging?

I've been told it's best to let the battery fully discharge before you place it on the charger.  It's supposed to keep the battery life longer.

Most all the newer phones use the new technology of Nickel Metal Hydride or Lithium Ion type batteries. These do NOT develop a 'memory', so they can be left on or off the charger at any time. The older type 'NiCad' batteries were the ones that needed to be discharged fully, or they would develop a memory problem. So...If your phone is fairly new, don't worry about too much charging, or having to run down the batteries!!
