It's better to be a good enough pilot that you don't get shot down and if you do you either escape or fight to the death like a real hero, instead of surrendering to the enemy and them jabbering about it for the rest of your life as if you made some great decision to be taken captive for YEARS (couldn't even manage to escape, had to be turned over).

how is being a POW a failure? if you are part of your nations military then you have the duty to become a POw. that is what your job entails of.  Your country would not be a country if it was not for killing!
