Is it better to buy a one month old kitten or a 4-month-old kitten?

I want to buy a cat. I'm not sure if I should buy a one month old kitten, so that I can get her used to being bathed, etc , or if I should get a four month old kitten which has already been spayed and possibly already been potty-trained. What do you guys advise me to buy?

  1. 1 month old as long as you have all the supplies and will treat her well. Its better to get a kitten young so she will become more used to you and its better because the kitten will get attached to your seller then to you. Also I've experienced that the older you get the kitten the more chance it will run away. My cat Princess was born in my house and we kept her..as her mother wasnt and we got her mother at 4 months and she ran away. While Princess remains with me loyally. Good luck to you either way in which kitten you choose! :)

  2. 4 month old. if you buy a 1 mont old he is too young to be away from his mother so he ouldnt have learned any 'manners' i know from experience. a 1 month old will be cranky and agressive.

  3. right now is kitten season, so u wouldnt have much trouble finding any age of cat. from experience i can tell you that cats learn potty training pretty early and pretty fast.

with the bathing idea- no matter how early you start, it depends on the cat. little kittens will let you bathe them but few older cats will allow it, even if it was done to them as babies.

kittens are also spayed early so that shudnt be much of an issue.

it'd probably be in your best interest to buy an older kitten. theyll most likely already be spayed (so u might save money from the local shelter), you'll be better able to tell the personality, and older kittens need more homes than the fuzzball cute ones!

    hope this helps!

  4. I would suggest a 4-month old cat. So it will litter-trained,spayed,vaccinations, etc. This will save some money and time. I also suggest getting one from a shelter. They are usually cheaper to get there then a pet-store. They also have already been through a lot and deserve a good home as soon as possible! Good Luck! Hope this helps!

  5. the oldest a kitten can be sold for is 8 weeks, or 2 months of age.  Chances of you purchasing any age of cat that has already been spayed is pretty slim unless you go to a shelter to adopt one, which is what you should do.  most shelters fix the animals and give them vaccines before they can be adopted.  also, cats do not need bathing, they do it themselves with their tongue.

  6. A four week old kitten is too young to be taken away from it's mother, and if it is you should be fully prepared to spend extra care on it. The four month old kitten is definitely the better choice!

  7. You should avoid anyone trying to sell a kitten that's only 1 month old. They should not be sold/rehomed until a minimum of 2 months of age.

Cats are clean animals, they do not require bathes. I would go for the kitten that's of proper age. Most kittens over 6 weeks old are litter box trained already, so you shouldn't have an issue with that.

  8. If you are looking to purchase then it isn't really a better kind of thing - Cats that young will be easy to fit in to your family with a good amount of love and care - They are really smart animals. An older cat that has been fixed and all might be better as far as a financial  thing but if that isn't the case then do what you wish - connect with the cat before you leave with it and you'll be able to work out the other details at another time.

  9. A 1 month old kitten is far too young to taken from it's mother, you should go foe the older option.

  10. if you want to train the cat to do anything you want it to then you should go with the 1 month old. but it will indeed be more work just for the fact kittens are very hyper and like to get into things that they shouldnt.

and if you get the 4 month old it will not be as hyper but it will also be difficult to train becuase that its older to its already started to learn stuff, ''that you mite not want it to do, etc''

  11. Hey.

Listen, I have a 5 week old kitten that I rescued. You really have no idea what you're getting yourself into. How old are you and how many hours a day are you going to be working? A kitten needs to be fed about every 4-5 hours from a bottle filled with Kitten Milk Replacer. Do you really have time to take on that big of a responsibility. Also, what about in the middle of the night when she needs to eat? Are you going to be okay with getting up at midnight and then again at 4-5 to feed her? What about her crying all the time? These are some things that you really need to think about before you get a kitten as young as a month old.

Are you going to be able to be with her and teach her how to use the litter box? Hopefully she's able to use the bathroom by herself now, because if she doesn't yet, you're going to need to stimulate her anal and genital region with a warm wash cloth until she urinates and defecates.

By taking the month old kitten away from it's mother, you're taking her away at the most critical part of her life.

Do the kitten a favor and leave it with its mother.

My suggestion: Get a 4 month old kitten... that way you won't have to worry about having time to feed it alot or teach it how to use the litterbox.

  12. a kitten should be at least 6 weeks of age before away from its mother.  cats usually dont take to much time to get used to a litter box, so that should not keep you from getting a younger kitten. i would say a 2-3 month old kitten would be a perfect age to adopt and that still would not be too old to get used to bathing etc!

    good luck

  13. id go with the 4month old kitten cause there so cute and there not so much work as a 1 month old

                       hope i helped

  14. The 1 month old is too young to be taken from it's mom.  When looking to adopt either a 2 month old kitten or 4 month old kitten I would just see which kitten grabs your heart the most.  Though I think with the 2 month old you have more opportunity to bond with the kitten.
