I was told to buy a slightly used crossover because it is cheaper and I won't lose it's value like buying a brand new one.

  1. A "preowned" vehicle will always be a better value because someone else has taken the 1st depreciation on the car for you. 1st year depreciation being the highest, then it slowly bottoms out. You will save thousands and the car should be in pretty good shape still. Just make sure the previous owner didn't not put excessive miles on it (12k a year or less is a good number)

  2. It is more cost effective to buy a low mileage crossover in good repair than to buy one straight off the lot.  Get the Kelly blue book on it before you go.  You can also find that info on www.edmunds.com

  3. Go with slightly used... let someone else take the hit on depreciation that a new vehicle takes when you drive it off the lot.

  4. Most of the time its better to go with a "slighty" used vehicle. You do save alot of that early depreciation a new car gets the first time its sold. However you have to be willing to sacrafice having the exact car you want i.e. you may want a red Ford Edge with a sunroof, but you can only get a red one without a roof or a silver one with the roof and so on.

The savings are better on certain models as well, if your looking at a small gas milage car especially toyota or honda the savings wont be very much since the demand for those vehicles is very high. If your looking at something bigger and American you can actually save alot of money, and this time of the year you can actually get used 08's in most models.

  5. If you dont mind it slightly used, and in good/great condition, its always WISE to buy USED.

You dont suffer the quick depreciation that a new car goes through when its brand new, and driven off the dealer's lot.

  6. brand new one is always better.

  7. USED. you save so much more money that way. i recommend getting a certified pre-owned crossover - that means its been fully inspected, cleaned, etc. its practically new, and you save thousands. not to mention you can resell the car for almost the equivilent of what you paid for it, since it would depreciate slower
