Question:

Is it better to buy new or ship the old when moving to Mexico?

We are moving to Leon, GTO. We have $3250 to move on. Should we ship/move our big stuff (fridge, washer, couch, bedroom furniture) or should we move with as little as possible and spend the money on buying new in Mexico? Renting a truck to the border is going to be just under $2K and moving companies want about $3500 to take it to Mexico. If we move it down we'll have little left of our funds. If we save the $$ for while we're in Mexico we'll have an easier more simple move. Which is going to be more efficient and cost effective?

  1. Just buy it here, it's not expensive at all. As someone said, sell what you have now and buy new stuff when you arrive, it will be cheaper and safer.

  2. Sell your c**p and buy new when you get there... NEVER, NEVER, NEVER move furniture from one country to another... it's just not worth it... besides that... when you buy new at the other end.. you can buy furniture that looks right in THOSE surroundings... and Mexican furniture is not like anything you would buy in the U.S.
