Is it better to connect your monitor using the hdmi cord or the vga cord?

computer monitor, it came with a vga to dvi adaptor but the computer itself has no vga in just dvi and hdmi the monitor also has a hdmi in and the computer hdmi out the instructions show hook up for vga to dvi and hdmi hookup and it says to hook up one or the other

Do you mean your computer monitor? Or your television set that you run the output of your upsampling DVD to? If it is your computer monitor, use the DVI interface (digital video interface). If you are offered both vga and DVI, you connect both, in case one fails.
