Is it better to donate a lot of money to one organization, or a smaller amount of money to several?

If I gave smaller amounts of money to a bunch of organizations, would that small amount be worth it to each one? Or would it be better to just put all my money in one, and know that they'll be able to use it, but also know that all the organizations didn't get anything from me?

  1. You can spread your donations too thin.  My husband and I have one animal welfare organization we donate to, instead of sending small amounts to several.   Any amount you donate will be appreciated, but the larger the donation, the more good it does to the one you choose.   I would think that choosing one that really speaks to your heart would be your best bet.

  2. There are so many charities that need as much help as possible. I think just the fact that you're so charitable and kind is enough. You should donate what you can when you can to whomever you like. But don't do it for the glory. Donate anonymously. I get more pleasure out of it when I do it that way. :)

  3. It depends on the nature of the organisations that you would like to donate.  If for disaster fund, might as well you just donate to one organization.  But if it is for education,  I would rather donate the fund to few different organisations to see how the fund was used.  It may be just a small fund, but a well organised organisation may acknowledged your contribution and gives assurances that the fund will be used properly.  You can make comparison on this. End.

  4. it's not good to give ALL of your money to only one, specially if you have a lot, but no to a bunch either.

Let me ask you this in response to your question.

You have a million dollars to donate, will you donate 1$ to a million organizations, or 1 million dollars to one.

  5. I have several charities to which I donate what I can. There are many, many more I would like to help, but there is only so much of me to go around.

The best thing I have done is to learn to say no. I cannot help everyone. I focus on those few I can, who seem to need/appreciate my small gifts more than big nationals to whom I'm just one more drop in their bucket.
