Is it better to drink water with a meal, before, or after?

also whenever i drink water which is often i usually guzzle like 12 onces at once. is this bad? is there such thing as drinking too much water? and is it better to drink in smaller portions?

  1. one glass of water before and one after.....

    before a meal water makes sure you consume a little less food than normal...and is an important point if you're on diet...

    after a meal it simply to wash down the food...

    in some cuisines water or mostly wine (or some kind of alcohol) is supposed to be taken between courses to wash down the taste....but not for regular stuff....

    drinking water in any amount is never bad...unless your body has a deficit and starts retaining it....a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day is recommended...but I go upto 4-5 liters a day easily....no kidding...

    the only problem with drinking too much water would be that you'd have to be ready to run to the loo every now and then....


  2. well there is such thing as drinking to much water, but to get to that point you would have to drink an outragious amount of water. eight 16oz glasses a day is recommended. ive only seen one case of someone hyperhydrating. what happens is you flush all the electrolytes out of your body and it causes you to pass out. the girl i treated did die. but its very rare to see this happen. usually its people who dont drink water who are the ones we have to see. so make sure to keep drinking water its good for you! hope this helps...

  3. we require various amounts of water at different stages of our lives. as children, we take lots of fluid because we r very hyper. adults should take lots of fluids also, but as u grow older, its best to take water after meals, because the digestive process slows down as you grow older, and drinking water slows the whole process further[ when you take water during meals, its like diluting your gastric juices, so it takes longer for food to digest] taking too much water makes some people bloated, and also nauseates some people, and makes your have abig tummy. you have to find the category you belong. studies have actually shown that drinking 5 litres of water doesnt do that much for a person when compared to those who take about  2litres.

  4. anytime ur supposed to have seven glasses of it everyday annyway. water has no calories or fat or aynthing to be honest but i would say after cos u dont want to have to pee in the middle of a meal

    3_we've to consider this conception:-

    stomach is like any vissel:-

    it contains food,treats it for digestions

    it uses an acid(hydrochloric acid) for

    digestion ,in addition to other enzyms like

    pepsine,

    so when you drink a big amount of water ,

    it will change the concentration of that acid

    ,that it may be couldn't do its job in the

    suitable time!

    this pushes the body to absorb the access

    amount of water and get it out to kidnies,

    this also affects heart(blood pump),kidnies

    (body filters),liver(by cooling it quickly if amount of water if huge and very cold or

    drinking when you are standing up!)

    some physicians advice to drink water

    before breakfast,(45 minutes before) and then get meals,they say it has too many

    benifits for body for long time(4-6 months).

    drinking in huge amounts affects badly

    on heart,liver,kidnies,but small portions does

    the task,and helps body to realize that he

    had enough quantity of water to cancel

    theristy!

  6. There is nothing harm in drinking too much water. But dont drink too much water at a time. It may bulge your stomach.  

    And it is better to drink around 1 litre of water in the morning once you wake up from bed. It cleans the stomach and it acts as medicine for many diseases.  But initially start with a little water. Taking too much of water at a time will irritate you and you may vomit also. Incerease the content day by day upto 1 litre.

    One more thing dont drink water 2 hours before and after having a meal. If you are stuck then you can take little water. After having a meal, the digestive system releases an acid that is used for disgesting the food we eat. If we drink water after the meal, the acid is diluted and it is difficult to digest.

    And also dont drink too much water before going to bed. All the digestion in the stomach takes place when you sleep.

    But drink as much as water you can taking the above precautions..Water is the best medicine for all diseases.

  7. I think it is good to drink a lot of water period.

    I do tend to drink a fair bit of water when I'm eating it I think it helps wash food down your throat and aids digestion.

    One draw back you may find with drinking water during or after you eat(before doesn't seem to matter) is if the food you ate is water soluble (for example pasta, or rice) it tends to expand in your belly with the addition of the water leaving you feeling bloated.

    If you're having something that isn't necessarily going to expand with the addition of water it shouldn't matter.

    Drink up its good for you
