  1. It seems scary getting an epidural, but in truth it's not that bad.  I actually thought getting the IV put in was worse.  The pain is minor, and it is worth it.    Also, at that point you will do anything for your baby.  So don't be scared,  just take it all in stride.

  2. You can't get an epidural through your IV, only in your back. You can get some pain meds through your IV, but not ones that will freeze you from your waist down like an epidural would.

  3. ivs are only a shot of the medicine and does not last but in the back it lasts until they turn the machine off. it is better in the back i think

  4. i dont think u could get it in  ur iv, only in ur  back...

    good luck

  5. The reason why there is no anesthetic through IV is because that would spread throughout your body, including the baby.  That is why an epidural is the way it is: isolated in the spinal cord, it does not reach the baby.

  6. you don't get an epidural in your IV. The epidural is in your back.

  7. You can't get an epidural in your IV. You have no choice but to get it in your back. They can give you pain medicine in your IV, but not an epidural.

  8. You can only get the epidural in your back.  you can have Demerol or staydol(not sure of the spelling). I would definitely take the epidural.

  9. An epidural can only be done in your very very lower part of your spine. You can get other drugs through your iv, but an epidural is ONLY done in your back.

  10. i had an epidural when i gave birth and its good because i dont feel much pain even when i was pushing..its good when it was in my back because the numb stays longer.

  11. i dont think you can get it thrru your iv i believe the only way it will work is through your back b/c the medicine is injected into a nerve in your spine to numb you

  12. An epidural is ONLY in your back.  Hence, the name epidural.  They put the pain medication in the epidural space in your spinal cord.  In your IV, they just give you pain meds, such as Nubain, which relieves some pain, but not all.
