Is it better to go running in the morning, afternoon, evening?

I am just starting out and want to know if I was to start running in the morning, should I have breakfast before or after? What should I be looking to eat and how long before I go for a run?

Any advice would be appreciated - Thankyou

  1. either or. Run before breakfast or afternoon before dinner. Never eat before you run

  3. |In my opinion you can choose what is better for you and your schedule BUT if you run in the morning i would run then eat..running speeds up your metabolism and you will digest better after and not to mention gas and cramps if you eat before. or run in the evening like an hour or so after you eat then only drink water before bed. helps you sleep. Just try things and see whats best for you.

  4. you should always have breakfast its the most important start to the day you can run in the morning or evening its up to you i don't think it really matters you will get the same results remember your energy levels are higher in the morning

  5. Personally I prefer it in the evening straight after work..lately though with the warm weather you might be better in the morning, but I don't think it really matters. Don't run on a full stomach though..*puke*..lol. Just have a banana before and a proper breakie after

    don't forget your warm ups, and build it up gradually..I'll warn you now, after your first one you will ache like h**l the next day..don't worry it is normal, just remember to rest and keep building, I now do 30 miles a week..i started off by barely doing 5..stick with it, it's easier than you think. Get some good trainers too, I like Asics Gel

  6. It ias usually better to run in the morning because that is when most races are run on saturdays.  I usually run at the same time my next race is taking place that day.

  8. i find all the benifits come from running in the evening. your running off all the excess youve eat and drank that day. just dont go have a chinese or pizza afterwards.

    and a showers a great reward for your hard work.

  9. Hi its best to have a lite breakfast give it 30mins. then go for a run. don't forget to warm up befor you go. hope this helps

    in the afternoon and evening many cars have been out = gas, etc harmful stuff..

    morning = fresh air

    make sure u dont get cramp lol

    have breakfast first then go run..

    start jogging then run dont run in full sprint

  11. running at evening is best. thats the time your body's metabolism slows down.

    run for about an hour, or stop when u tired.

    then u'll get a good night sleep!

  12. It depends on what you are running away from If you run 1Km a day by the end of the weak you should be 7 Km away Good luck

  13. if u run before breakfast in the mornings...u will lose more weight.

    just run 1-3 miles.

  14. Welcome new runner!!

    I have been running for over 14 years and love it! Generally speaking in the summer it is better to go running in the morning. It is less hot, dark, and the air seems to be fresher. Also there are less scary cars on the road. If you can help it definitely wait until after your run to eat your  breakfast. This is because while running on a full stomach you will probably have stomach cramps. If you feel you must eat before running wait an hour or two for the food to diget. Another word of advice is DO NOT DRINK MILK OR EAT DAIRY before a run. Milk has a tendency to coat your stomach and make for a bad run. Also, if you haven't already wear proper running shoes because otherwise you can end up with stress fractures like I did. I wish I knew all this when I started instead of learning the hard way.

  15. Any time of the day will get your results but if you are looking for the most effective, morning is it!!!

    Running in the morning is by far the most effective time. When we run we burn calories. If you run in the evening obviously having had breakfast that morning and lunch, you will spend most if not the entire time burning the calories of those meals.

    Running in the morning on the other hand means you haven't eaten for the last 6-8 hrs so you will burn body fat rather than than food taken in from say breakfast

    Be sure to take water before running because you lose a lot of water during the night while asleep.

  16. I like running in the morning.  I don't know if it is because I am used to it or because I am tired in the evening.  I would not eat a whole lot before running though, you don't want to feel "full" when you run, but not hungry either.
