  1. yes, it creates more of the saltwater "feel", and most importantly adds to the amount of oxygen produced.


  2. I thought the rock would be better but the rock has minerals in it so it's not really pure.  Of course, the plastic "fake rocks" probably have something in them that will turn out to be toxic, too.  So we are all guessing what the correct thing is to do.  I'd go with real rock.

    A "live" rock would be from the coral family.

  4. yes live rock is a very good idea because the live rock is for biological filteration.

    it not only adds structure but it does wonders for filteration and keeping the tank stable.

    it is one of the most expensive aspects of a saltwater aquarium but it is a very good idea to get.

  5. The 'Live' part of live rock is the various micro-organisms that grow on the rock. Algae, bacteria and other microscopic critter.

    These help with processing the waste products in the water, removing ammonia and other chemicals.

    It works as a backup bio-filter, not just decoration.
