Question:

Is it better to have your tank almost full or on the empty side?

I watched a preview for a motoring programme recently on tv and the question was to be tested. Unfortunately, I didn't see the programme and so I am none the wiser. It was asked regarding fuel economy.

The argument in favour of an almost full tank was that less petrol was able to evapourate. The argument in favour of an emptyish tank was that the car had less weight so therefore consumed less petrol.

Does anybody know the answer? I would prefer answers that are backed up by empirical facts rather than heresay, but whatever.

Almost empty is better.  Less weight.  Gas tanks / caps are sealed.  There's very little evaporation (if any).

    Good Luck...

  2. It's a bad idea to keep ur tank near empty because whatever is floating in it (trust me there are things floating in it) they will get into gas pump and u're screwed so the fuller the tank is the better it is and with the weight.. it really doesn't make significant difference. Keep it full!

  3. Keeping a full /near full tank is better. One advantage is evoperation is less and another vehicle is more stable becasue the liquid wont shake inside while riding the bike. And in my experience a heavier vehicle is much stable and comfortable to handle than a lighter one.

  4. full is better

  5. full tank is better, less evaporation. fill up petrol at midnight and not at the day the gas station refill.
