Is it better to leave on the light or turn them on and off when you need them?

i was just wonderin; when you are in your room is it better to leave on the light when you leave the room and turn them back on when you come back or is it better to leave them on when you exit and enter the room.

  1. It uses more energy to leave the lights on than to turn them off and then back on.  However, assuming you have CFLs, the lightbulbs don't last as long if they're turned on and off frequently.

    Overall, unless you're going in and out of a room very frequently, it's best to turn the light off when you leave.


  2. Depends on what kind of light, and the interval between switching them off, and of course what you are trying to accomplish.

    t.v, phone charger, hair straightener

    or anything that needs a outlet

    evertime your not using it

    so you save our mother earth

  4. There was actually a myth busters about that.

    It is better to turn them on and off. Not leave them on. Conserves and saves money at the same time.

  5. Always better to turn them off, no matter what kind of light it is.

    Mythbusters did a show on this one and unless you are going to be out of the room for a fraction of a second, literally - it doesn't make sense to leave them on.
