Nikon Nikkor AF-S VR (Vibration Reduction) Lens. One is 18-55mm & the other is 55-200mm. Both AF-S & both VR.

  1. It does not matter if your camera is turned off.

If you are shooting sports or action, you may want to turn off the VR feature ... there is a little lag from the time you press the shutter release until the anti-vibration (IS on other cameras that use stabilization schemes) element stabilized the image.

  2. The VR system draws power from the camera's primary battery so it won't matter if the switch is engaged or not.

I was about to say the same thing about "Nikon Nikkor" being redundant, but then glanced to my left and noticed Nikon does say both words on the front of many (though not all) of their lenses.

  3. When the lens is not being used it does *not* matter whether the switch is on or not.

So you might as well just leave it on so that you don't have to turn it on next time you use the camera.

By the way, just for a terminology thing, you should have worded the question like this:

"when my Nikkor lens is not being used?"

Putting Nikon before Nikkor is redundant because Nikon's lenses are called Nikkor Lenses. I hope that makes sense.

But anyways I hope I helped.

  4. If the lens is mounted on a camera that is on and you adont need VR..might as well turn it off.. if the camera is off..I doubt that the VR will be active obviously!
