  1. I agree with usmcwife.  It depends on where you're stationed.  I lived in off-base military housing in Nebraska, and I definitely would have prefered to have lived in non-military housing in that area, which was pretty safe.  If I were in Los Angeles or somewhere like that, I would definitely prefer to live on base.

  2. Off!!! the way i always looked at it if you have a drink and drive home when you live on base you still have to pass a gate guard who might get you for a dui

  3. That depends on where you are. Some bases have brand new housing, others have houses from the 70s. I was at an army base in Arizona last week, they have all new houses, though I spent most of my time enjoying the mountain views. Absolutely stunning sunsets! I also got to visit the town of Tombstone, what a trip that was!

The people in the town around the base were super nice as well. The only complaint I had during the whole trip was the stupid kids driving around with their cars about to blow apart do to their stereo volume.

  4. On base, in 9/11 it took 11 hours for my troops to get through 1 mile just to the checkpoint.  Plus the benefits are good to

  5. Like the people before me mentioned, it depends where you are stationed.  I have lived in Kansas and Georgia and both places it was better to live on post.  You would have to pay a lot of out of pocket expenses living off post (unless if you lived in a shack).  Plus, it is a faster and easier commute for the soldier.

  6. OFF!!!!!!!!!

Well, let me ask, what branch of the military? It depends

  7. we live off base because of BAH, we end up pocketing more money than living on base(plus more privacy)

  8. OFF

You bring in your house mortgage. They pay BAQ [BAH] plus COLA and VHA up to a limit which usually will cover yoru mortgage.

So you can own a house.

Then when you sell it, you walk away with the profit.

We did this and we made out big time, everytime.

  9. It depends on where you are stationed really. Where I am I would never live off base because I don't think it's safe and I probably wouldn't be able to pocket any BAH. My friend is stationed at MCRD in San Diego and they live off base because the housing list was too long and the onbase quality wasn't to their liking. It would depend on if I would feel safer on base or off, and then which would be cheaper.
