I am moving soon, and am not sure what floor to choose from. I will be living alone and will be coming home late at night at times. What is better first or second floor?

  1. I guess , in the same block it doesn't matter if you stay on first or second floor. Factors such as lighting, traffic (does everyone in block need to walk pass your apartment to go somewhere?), security (is the CCTV coverage good? Security personeel trustworthy?) and access (must use isolated lift) should be considered

  2. I am in the same situation as you and I have lived in both first and second floor apartments.  Here is my take on this.  When I lived on the first floor apartment, I constantly felt like there was someone right outside my window.  I think it was because it was technically a 'basement' apartment, where the windows were at ground level because the apartment was below ground.  Everytime someone walked by, it threw a shadow across the apartment and it made me nervous.  However, I felt that in a fire I had a better chance of escape.  I am currently in a second floor apartment, and I like it much more.  I feel more in control of who can see into my apartment, and it is not so high up that I escaping in a fire would be that dangerous.

  3. IF YOUR KNEES ARE GOOD I WOULD CHOOSE TOP FLOOR LESS TRAFFIC AND NO ONE WALKING ON FLOOR ABOVE YOU I HAVE NOT GIVEN MUCH THOUGHT TO SECURITY PROBLEMS

  4. I would go with a 2nd floor apartment.

Since it's just going to be you, so long as you're not heavy-footed, then there really shouldn't be any problems.

Much better to not have someone over your head who might make a ton of noise and then some that you have to deal with.

I would just make sure, since you are going to be getting home late at night, just to keep that in mind when walking around your apartment at night. You don't want the ppl under you complaining about you or anything.

Plus 2nd floor, you'll get a nice balcony. Won't have to worry about ppl being able to look in to your windows like they would on a ground lvl apartment, etc etc.

I think the pros definitely outnumber the cons on a 2nd floor apartment.

  5. Second floor apartment is always safer.  Plus, you don't have anyone walking on your ceilings.
