Is it better to pick your own numbers than just buying a quick-pick lottery ticket?

Have more people won the lottery picking their own numbers than just getting the quick-pick random ticket? I get a quick-pick every week but wonder if you have a better chance picking your own numbers?

  1. Each set of six numbers has an equal chance of winning as any other set, namely 14 million to 1, on a 6/49 draw.

There were three Winners of Saturday's Draw, because the highest main ball was 30 and as many people choose their numbers on Birthdays, that worked well for them.

If the combination 1,2,3,4,5,6, comes up, thousands will win, as they have understood my first point. Therefore, if you want six consecutive numbers, it would be much better to have chosen a set like 27,28,29,30, as those four numbers came up in draw 1310.

  2. Try lottery analysis software, free to try

  3. Using your 'favorite numbers' may give you a sense of control, and it might make you say, AHA! if you win, but the maths do not care and your lucky numbers are random to the maths - regardless of their distribution in the continuum.

When picking numbers for a four number draw, the best numbers to choose, so that you will be right far more often than wrong, are: 3507 because when you turn the ticket over you will see LOSE.

I don't know where you could get information about whether more wins were quickpicks or chosen, but you'd also need to know how many tickets of each 'style' were sold to get the proper ratios to compare the results.

On the bright side: You will have a very slim chance of winning regardless of how you pick your numbers, BUT if you don't play, you can't win :p
