Is it better to race in overdrive on or off?? 3.8L mustang like regular street races?

There is no such thing as regular street races there are illegal street races with a bunch of stupid kids doing it. They do not think about what can happen in a second.

Leave it in off mode.Overdrive is like  cruise mode for open road driving this will slow you down as over drive will drop your revs.

your OD will never come in when racing.  Just leave it on OD (on), it is all automatic.

You take it off (OD) when you are on hwy and you are climbing a long upward hill.  That's about the only condition. ALL OTHER SPEED AND condition, leave it on.

Basically OD is another gear higher than the top gear.  So if your car would have just gears 1, 2, and 3, then the engineers added gear 4 so that the engine will rev little bit lower to save gas.  That's all.
