  1. Depends on the type of serve you are receiving.

A bump is better if it is a tough serve as you don't want to hurt your hands or break your fingers. Bumps are also best for short serves and digs.

If it is a weaker serve and it isn't going out using your hands are best since unlike with a bump you have better control over volleys. Volleys are good if the ball is high.

If the ball is up in the air, most likely it is a weaker serve so you can volley but anything below the shoulders you should bump.

Now if that wasn't confusing for you I hope it helped.

  2. Depends on the situation, however, 9 times out of 10 I'd rather my players use the underhand pass. And it really comes down to movement. Unless the ball is moving really fast, I want my players to use their feet and make an underhand pass and I want my setter to always use their feet and make an overhand pass. Volleyball is a game of constant transition. Serving and underhand passing are the top skills needed in volleyball but the most important skill is movement. Some might argue that communication is, but communication isn't a skill, it's a habit.

  3. im a little confused but if you mean is it better to play the ball pass, set, hit or bump it over then  I have an answer.  Volleys are always better to do because giving free balls or passes makes it easier for the other team just to smack it down and get the point. If you give them a challenge back (pass, set, hit/tip) then u are more likely to win the game.

  4. i think a volley is better, assuming it is the equivalent of a spike or hit, but a volley could also be considered a bump, so, i don't know. it would help to be more descriptive.

  5. uhm, i ONLY use my hands when it is absolutely have too becausee im afraid of tearing a ligament in my thumb like i did one timee. butt it mainly matters when the ball is, becuase if its coming towards your face, then use your hands (volley) andd if its lower than your chest then pass with your forearms (bump)

  6. Whether a bump or volley is better to receive a serve depends on:

    1. The positioning of the ball.

    2. Which you're more comfortable with.

Normally, if the serve is harder and lower, you want to position yourself so that it'd land on your lap if you didn't bump it, then bump it. If the serve is higher or softer and it's easier to volley, then volleying will give you better control.

Why? If the serve is hard and you try to volley it, you risk injuring you fingers. And trust me, it's painful. If the serve is soft, again, volleying will give you better control in most cases.

Treat every mistake you've made passing as an opportunity to get better. If you pass a ball badly, ask yourself why so you don't make the same mistake next time. For example, if the serve is high, high, and it's in and you can't receive it properly, you're properly positioned too far in front so you should move back a little.
