Question:

Is it better to stay in apt in Las Ramblas or Segrada Familia area?

I'm going to Barcelona in a few weeks and will be staying at an apt for 3 nights. Segrada Familia is cheaper and is advertised as only 10 mins from Las Ramblas by metro. The EL Raval apt is advertised as only 5 minutes walking distance to Las Ramblas. I heard Las Ramblas is where all the nightlife is. We also plan on taking the tourist bus.

Both apts are about ten minutes walking distance from metro stops. WHich would be better to stay at? It's my first time to Barcelona so any advice appreciated. Thanks.

  1. Barcelona is very walkable and all things considered not very big.  Las Ramblas is in the Eixample section of the city and you can walk to Sagrada Familia from their in about 15 or 20 minutes and certainly if you take the metro it will take only a few minutes.  I've been to Barcelona a number of times myself and recommend being in Eixample the first time.  Much more vibrant with more clubs, restaurants, bars, etc.

  2. Las Ramblas is more in the city centre than Sagrada Familia, so if you wanna hang around the city centre, especially at night, go to Las Ramblas one. If you rather be quiet at night, go to the Sagrada Familia one. As you say, both areas have metro connection, and are next to stops from Bust touristic so you are gonna be able to move around easily.

I don't know about touristic bus, but metro is open 5am to 12pm every day, except fridays and saturdays when is open 5am to 2am.

  3. find the quieter thing. is better. how much did you spend for hostel per night. I found one with 50 euros for only a night, so I hope you found something cheaper.

  4. LOVED Barcelona.  We stayed way out in Saint Joan Suites a couple of times.  The taxi is about 14 euros each way from there to Las Ramblas.  I was checking out several of the hostels right on Las Ramblas and think I will stay there next time, so long as it is not in the midst of summer.  HOT and many places don't use A/C as much as I was used to.

  5. As brightorange has said, both places are well communicated and it's easy to walk everywhere. the nightlife goes around those areas, but Las Ramblas are crowded night and day , (take care of your wallet!) and you can go walking to the beach, and everywhere but the Sagrada Familia is a more peacefull place. Personally I prefer the Sagrada Familia because it's not as much touristic as the Ramblas but there's no place to feel the life of the city as the Ramblas.
