  1. It's good to be optimistic/positive but at the same time be realistic. Don't be so idealistic that your vision gets clouded from reality.

  2. Great question. I say: think real, if you can handle it.

  3. What's wrong with realistic positivity?

Strange how this question implies realistic has to automatically be negative.

  4. I frequently think about this. I myself consider myself a realist. I think of the positives when there are some, and the negatives. Thinking positively can lead to high hopes, or false hopes. And under circumstances, that kind of hope can hurt.

After a relationship for example it's better to think realistically than positively so you don't increase your hopes of getting back together. (example)

Though, before an exam it's better to go in positive than realistically. ex: realistically I didn't study very much for this exam, but I hope I do well.

Anyways, it really depends on the situation.

  5. I would say it is always best to hope for the best but to prepare for the worst.

  6. both i suppose, but possibly lean towards realism.reality will hit sooner and probably more often than not.and that's not to say that reality is always not positive.

  7. A blending; knowing that each presents itself in turn; knowing the subtle difference is always best.

  8. Think realistically, intend positively.

  9. Based on the unqualified way you ask this question, I'm guessing these two words mean something specific to you.

"Think positively" often has the connotation of putting on rose colored glasses and believing the best about anyone and any situation, often without regard for what's actually happening.

"Thinking realistically" generally refers to an outlook that's almost cynical or gloomy.

My take on mental attitude:  in order to get where I want to go, I have to know where I am.  That means telling the truth about who I am and what my present circumstances are.  "Truth" is not ladened with my judgements about what I do and don't like - it's just being objective.

And, I also believe (as an article of faith) that the universe is plentiful - there's enough for everyone.  So there are lots of wonderful possibilities for my life and for the community I live in.
