Question:

Is it better to work at a Restaurant or a Cafe?

I have a job interview on Thursday at a newly opening cafe, called the Green House Cafe.

And i had applied for Red Lobster and they called and left a message saying i should give them a call back if I'm still interest in working there(worked there before part-time as a busser).

Which one to choose?

  1. Defnitely choose the cafe'. It's a more clam relaxing atmosphere and isn't as demanding as a restaurant like Red Lobster.

  2. as long as the cafe gets good traffic, work there..

  3. I would choose the cafe.  I worked at Red Lobster for a very short time.  I made the salads and the twice-baked potatoes.  It's a big corporation and you're just a number.

At least at this little cafe, you can get to know who you work with.  It will probably have a nicer working atmosphere.

  4. restaurant

  5. well i suggest you give it a shot some cafes are great places to work

  6. You may make more money at Red Lobster than a small cafe just starting out. Red Lobster will be busier and they tip out the busser & hostesses plus you have the perks of working for a large corporation like Darden. But you may enjoy the quaintness of repeat customers & knowing the owners personally at the cafe.

I recommend taking the cafe job first, and telling Red Lobster you are looking to start in 3 months. Within those 3 months you will know if the cafe is the right choice or not. Plus Red Lobster will have many many other opportunities to reapply (they are always hiring).

  7. Depending on how nice and popular the cafe is I  think that would be better same goes for the resturant I think that u should pick the one that earns u more money and has a good hourly shift u can work with

  8. There are advantages to both. You would make more money at Red Lobster. However, the cafe would be a private place, not a huge corporate chain like Red Lobster. Managers & owners would be more flexible and it might be more than family than bosses. But, if you ever wanted to advance, Red Lobster would have more room for advancement.

I've worked in corporate places, and if I need to go back to waitressing again I would prefer a mom and pop place for sure. Just more freedom in what you can do, and not what you HAVE to do in such a certain time.
