Is it broken? My jvc flatscreen iart tv was working this morning but when we went to turn it on

My jvc flatscreen iart tv was working this morning but when we went to turn it on this afternoon the sound works fine but the picture is completely black with a strip of color right in the middle. The channels will change and the color of the channels change but all there is the very narrow strip of color in the middle. You really can't see what is showing just that the color is changing for the different shows.

Is it a goner and my husband gets to go shopping for a new one or is there hope for it?

it kinda sounds like u have what is called "ghosting"? but from what u said, it actually sounds like the tv. so u cant see at all what's on the channel, jus bold colors? if u can see the actual channel, does everything have sorta shadow? either way, i would check all connections to and from the tv, and if u have cable or dish, make sure u have the tv on the correct channel, its usually channel 4, sometimes ch 3. also make sure u have it on the right tv/video mode, its usually the one that says tv or cable or 1. if that doesnt fix it, call ur cable or dish tech. hopefully its the connections or something small.
