  1. Google search a Rabbit Rescue in your state.  Adoption fees are very reasonable.  Then call around the local animal shelters and see if they have any used cages that would make a suitable home for the bunny.  Our animal shelter gets heaps of donated crates, carriers, and rabbit/ferret cages every year.  Offer them a small donation for a cage.  If you adopt a rabbit from a rescue you will most likely get a health guarantee- the petstore won't do that for you.  I'd adopt.  Good luck.

  2. PLEASE! dont buy a rabbit from Petco.

They will lie to you and the bunny may be sick.

Its just a scam to make you want to pay them money.

Go to your local humane society instead.

They have loads of rabbits and theyre cheap

Here its only $39.00 and that includes the rabbit, spaying/neutering, deworming, basic shots, 6 weeks of health care .

Saving an older rabbit is better than buying a baby bunny that will probably be infected.

  3. Its pricey of course.

    but petco!

    ohh god.

    there animals die soooo easy.

  4. Don't forget accessories and tools, unless you already have them. Petco does not sell rabbits. You would need to go to Petsmart, which I'm pretty sure sells rabbits as well.

They cost between $20 and $80

  5. Like everyone else is saying, don't buy a rabbit there or from any pet shop.  If you have the other equipment you need (cage, food/water crocks, pellets, good hay) you could buy a Grand Champion rabbit for that price!  Or at least one really good show prospect - depends on breed and what part of the country you're in.

Most rabbit exhbitors will sell a pet quality rabbit (from the same litters as their Grand Champions) for $20 or $30 plus they'll be there for you for the lifetime of your rabbit.

I recommend buying from an ARBA exhibitor/breeder or buying from a shelter.  At our tax-subsidized shelter you can get a rabbit that has been spayed and microchipped for $20.  That's at least a $150 value not including the rabbit.  Good deal!  Shelter rabbits are not for everyone.  I'd recommend more experienced rabbit owners think about a shelter rabbit.  IF you do choose to go with a shelter rabbit, choose on temperament/friendliness, not size or looks.  You want a rabbit that craves human interaction if you're picking from a shelter.

If you don't  have the equipment you need, try Craigslist.  They often have used cages or x-pens for sale for a very good price.  Sometimes they even come with the rabbit.  lol.

  6. Forget buying rabbits from petco due to poor health! Don't buy pets from stores period, because it only encourages mass breeding in unsafe and unregistered clinics!

    Don't Shop! Adopt!

If all you have is 70 dollars than you wont be able to afford a rabbit period.  They need litter of litter boxes, food, chews, toys, and a cage large enough to properly and fairly house the rabbit. And if you get a "rabbit set up" cage from a pet store, you'll be spending over 100 for that alone.

    Rabbits also need vet care.

They are not an animal for every one, and if you do purchase one, and decide a year from now you've had enough, then what? Just another rabbit homeless and unwanted. We have enough of those!!

  7. Please don't buy a rabbit!

Look around for rabbit rescues, there are tons of sweet rabbits there who need homes. And it costs less than $70!

EDIT: No, Petsmart does not sell rabbits.
