Is it cheaper to buy amtrak train tickets a few days in advance?

...rather than at the station right before boarding?

right now online it's $61 btw nyc and baltimore...will it go up if i wait til i'm there?

  1. It's very unlikely that you'll get a last-minute discount between New York City and Baltimore.  That's one of the most highly used routes on the entire Amtrak system and Amtrak doesn't need to offer any deals for it.

    Assuming you're planning on using one of the all-reserved trains, it's better you should buy the ticket now and be sure to have a seat.


  2. It depends...do you have a Mastercard, AutoClub membership, or something similar?  With Auto Club, you get a 10% discount if you buy at least 3 days in advance.  Does not apply to Metroliner or Acela IIRC.

    Also, sometimes Amtrak has a 'rail sale' and you can save some bucks using a Mastercard.  It doesn't have to be the affinity Mastercard.
