  1. I have always found eurostar to be more expensive but I guess that depends on how close you are to an airport compared to the Eurostar station?

  2. Much much cheaper by Eurostar especially if you take a return.

Taking a cheap airlines or in fact any airlines:

    - add $20 each way (so $40) to commute by train to the airport

    - need to arrive 2 hours prior your flight

    - expect flight delay at the airport

    - wait for your baggage to collect as you cannot check in most liquid anyway (tooth path...)

To get the cheap $110 (£55 - 70 Euros) return ticket, you need to include a week end between.

    Example:

    Leave London: Friday

    Back on Monday

    or Leave London Saturday

Come back to London Sunday not the following week but the week after.

  3. There are many things to factor in and overall I think that the EuroStar is the best option.

At first glace, a flight on a budget airline (such as RyanAir or EasyJet) will be cheaper. But you also need to factor in travel costs to and from the airports. Most of the cheap flights will not be flying into London Heathrow but instead into one of the other 4 airports in the London area, it is often about 15-25 pounds or so to get to these airports on trains such as the "Gatwick Express" depending on if you will be needing a round trip, then you will also need to pay for a tube ride to your destination. I believe in Paris it is a little cheaper but i think it costs about 8 Euro to get from CDG Airport in Paris to the main underground system. You also need to factor in what a pain it is to wait in line, check your bags, sit around, etc at the airport. When taking the EuroStar everything is much simpler, quicker, and easier, it will bring you right to a main underground station in the center of the city in both London and Paris! It is a beautiful ride and a good experience also. Look on the EuroStar website and you can often find travel packages that will save you even more money.

Trust me I have experienced both and the Eurostar is much more efficient and enjoyable and did end up saving me a little bit of money overall.

  4. By plane is cheaper, but the train is always much more fun, and it also ends up being a little bit quicker than by plane.

  5. That depends on many things such as if you book ahead, which day you are traveling on, what airline you would use and whether you are going one-way or roundtrip.  I did a quick experiment where I picked a random day in August and got prices for a one way flight with easy jet and a one way train with Eurostar.  In this experiment Easy Jet was about 28 pounds one way and Eurostar was about 50 pounds, so almost twice as much.  I think if you are willing to fly a budget airline like Easy Jet (and why not for such a short flight) flying will definitely be cheaper.  But you should also consider other things like if flying is too big of an inconvenience since the train takes you from city center to city center and the airports are outside the city meaning it will take time and money to get to and from them.  I would go to www.easyjet.com and www.eurostar.com, plug in the date(s) you are thinking of traveling and weigh the pros and cons of each option.  If you are planning only a day or quick trip to Paris and choose to fly, definitely do not check any baggage with the airline as claiming your luggage may eat up ½ of your day!  Cheers!
