Is it cheaper to live in South America than North america?

I am considering moving to Ecuador in about a year or two, cause that is where my husband is from, and I have never been there before, does anyone have any ideas how it is over there,( from an American's point of veiw) or how the cost of living is?

Oh, yes! it's much cheaper. Ecuador is a very nice country and people are very polite. There are several historical cities from Spanish colonial times, including Quito, the Capital.

The country has a leftist government now so I really don't know how that has affected normal life there.
